I, am an educator who has travelled extensively in Africa and through the African diaspora. During my travels I have gained insights into the lives and experiences of the peoples of Africa and African descendant around the world.

After approximately forty seven years of teaching, hopefully affecting knowledge of things African and African American in a positive manner, I have relocated to South Africa from the United States to continue my live’s journey here.

My journey began in Baltimore, Maryland, USA where I was born to working class parents, although my brother used to joke “papa was a rolling stone….”. Essentially, my mother was hard working and raised five children, many time working overtime to make ends meet.

I started to go beyond the boundaries of our small black economically depressed community to understand the perennial issue of racism that affected our daily lives. It was all around us. Our lives were defined by the racism that existed in our environment. Riding pass the places we couldn’t go into, like amusement parks, swimming pools and some stores. The stores we were allowed into, carried restrictions. The existential perimeters of our lives were circumscribed and of course, left an indelible mark on our collective consciousness. O
